Mike Shipley was playing guitar and singing his own songs by the time he was 15. After graduation and two tours in Viet Nam, he wrote and recorded his first record in St. Louis Missouri, where it received radio airplay at WIL. He sold 5,000 copies in just 2 months. Still being in the Military, he worked days as “the Singing Recruiter” using his musical abilities to help draw recruits for the armed forces.
Once again, he was deployed overseas, where he became the Entertainment Director for the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea. He was the first American to appear and perform for the Korean President, Army Commanding Generals, and troops for a Christmas extravaganza that was televised nationwide. Mike sang in Korean and received a 5 minute standing ovation.
Back on U.S. soil Mike competed against 54 bands as a solo artist and won first place to represent the state of Oregon in a national Star-Search contest. That landed him on the stage of The Grand Ole Opry, where his Dad came to see him perform for the very first time. It made the retired Sgt. Major cry.
Mike has opened shows for Mickey Gilley, The Judds, John Anderson, Jerry Reed and many more.
We are proud to be working with Mike on his newest project.
